Your golf game shouldn’t come with pain. Repetitive swings, poor mobility, and lack of warm-up can lead to low back, shoulder, or elbow injuries on the course. The good news? A few simple prep strategies and proper mechanics can go a long way in keeping you injury-free. Lower back pain is the most common area of injury that limits golfers from getting out there. We can think of the lower back as a "helper". The golf swing involves a fair amount rotation and when the hips and upper back arent flexible enough to do their part then the lower back "helps". If this goes on for a long time it can cause many different overuse injuries in the lower back. So the best way to prevent falling into this common trap is stretching. A simple stretching regiment prior to playing can go along way in preventing lower back injuries. Stretching the upper back, shoulders, hips, and yes the lower back for about 5-7 minutes prior to starting your round will greatly reduce your risk for lower back pain.
